For week of June 7, 2004
TRASH TIP OF THE WEEK:
GET YOUR TRASH OUT
& PICKED UP
City curbside
garbage collection begins 30 minutes earlier
Rising summer
temperatures and amounts in garbage have prompted the City of Laredo Solid
Waste
department to move the start time of their garbage collection to 6:30 a.m.
The new change will start on
Monday, June 7, 2004.
“Summer is actually one of the difficult and most busiest
times for the sanitation workers,” said Oscar Medina, director of the
department. “The hotter temperatures are always a challenge for our
workers, but, with students at home on summer vacation, there is actually
more garbage being collected everyday. These two reasons have made it
difficult for our workers to finish their routes, without incurring
additional costs for equipment and labor. That’s why we decided to
start the garbage collection earlier. Workers can hopefully escape the heat,
and have more energy for the heavier loads they are facing,” he added.
Garbage collection routes and days will remain the same. Residents are
encouraged to make every effort to have their trash out on their curbs by 6:20
a.m.
All other rules for garbage collection are still applicable. To
review those Trash Tips, visit the City of Laredo website at www.cityoflaredo.com
or call the Solid Waste Customer Service number at 796-1098.
The earlier garbage collection hours will be effective until Labor Day.
