SUBJECT:  Final Reading / Ordinance 2001-O-285

 

Amending the City of Laredo FY2001-2002 annual budget in the amount of $3,865 for grant year 2001 and $78,129 for grant year 2000 for a total of $81,994 to fund the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Public Corruption Task Force at no cost to the City.   Funding will be used to pay personnel salaries, overtime, travel and operating expenses from January 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001.

ACTION PROPOSED:

 

That City Council pass this Ordinance

 

BACKGROUND:

 

The City of Laredo accepted a grant from the Office of the National Drug Control Policy to fund the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Public Corruption Task Force in the year 2001 (200-O-104) in the amount of $20,025. The Office of the National Drug Control Policy has increased the award by the amount of $3,865.

 

The City of Laredo accepted a grant from the Office of the National Drug Control Policy to fund the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Public Corruption Task Force in the year 2000 (2000-O-019) in the amount of $49,888. The Office of the National Drug Control Policy has increased the award by the amount of $78,129. Increase includes a Zapata County Sheriff Deputy as a one-time award for Zapata County.

 

All funding is for calendar year 2001 unless authorized by the South Texas HIDTA Director.

Ordinance 2001-O-285

 

Amending the City of Laredo FY2001-2002 annual budget in the amount of $3,865 for grant year 2001 and $78,129 for grant year 2000 for a total of $81,994 to fund the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Public Corruption Task Force at no cost to the City.   Funding will be used to pay personnel salaries, overtime, travel and operating expenses from January 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001.

    

 

Whereas, the City Council previously adopted the budget for fiscal year 2000-2001; and

 

 

            Whereas, 100% of the grant funds are federally funded by the Office of the National Drug Control Policy through the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area.

 

 

            Whereas, the Chief of Police recommends that this award be accepted

 

Whereas, funds will be used to pay the overtime, fringe benefits, travel and operating expenses for 1 LPD Sergeant, 1 LPD Investigator and 1 Zapata County Sheriff Deputy; and

 

 

 Whereas, the described transfer below are done pursuant to the requirements of Section 6.08 of the City Chapter.

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:

 

Section 1: Amending the City of Laredo FY2001-2002 annual budget in the amount of $3,865 for grant year 2001 and $78,129 for grant year 2000 for a total of $81,994 to fund the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Public Corruption Task Force at no cost to the City.   Funding will be used to pay personnel salaries, overtime, travel and operating expenses from January 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001.
