SUBJECT: Resolution #2002-R-005 Authorizing the City Manager to
submit a grant application with the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice
Division for $1,412,546.99 to fund the Laredo Narcotics Task Force. CJD will designate $1,059,410.24 and the
City of Laredo and participating agencies will designate $353,136.75 for a
total amount of $1,412,546.99. This
funding will be used to pay salaries, direct operating expenses, and the
purchase of equipment from June 1, 2002 through May 31, 2003. |

BACKGROUND:
The City of Laredo has been the
Grantee agency for the past 14 years of the Multi-Agency Narcotics Task
Force. The Task Force works together
with the other Government Agencies and enforces Federal and State narcotics
laws in the City of Laredo, and the counties of Webb, Zapata, and La Salle. This grant pays for salaries,
benefits, and direct operating expenses.
Overtime Expenses are requested from the program income that has been
generated from the seizure of funds.

Resolution #2002-R-005
Authorizing
the City Manager to submit a grant application with the Office of the Governor,
Criminal Justice Division for $1,412,546.99 to fund the Laredo Narcotics Task
Force. CJD will designate $1,059,410.24
and the City of Laredo and participating agencies will designate $353,136.75
for a total amount of $1,412,546.99.
This funding will be used to pay salaries, direct operating expenses,
and the purchase of equipment from June 1, 2002 through May 31, 2003.
Whereas, the City Council previously adopted the budget for fiscal year
2001-2002; and
Whereas, grant funds are awarded
through the Governor’s Office Criminal Justice Division; and
Whereas, the Chief of Police
recommends the submission of this grant application which will be used to pay
the salaries, overtime, fringe benefits, indirect operating expenses and to
purchase equipment; and
Whereas, 100% of the matching funds
for this program will be paid proportionally by all corresponding agencies
based on number of participants.
Whereas, in the event of loss or
misuse of CJD funds, the governing body assures that the funds will be returned
to CJD in full.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
Section 1:
Authorizing the City
Manager to submit a grant application with the Office of the Governor, Criminal
Justice Division to fund the Laredo Narcotics Task Force. This funding will be used to pay salaries,
direct operating expenses, and the purchase of equipment from June 1, 2002
through May 31, 2003.
