SUBJECT: FINAL READING OF ORDINANCE 2002-O-072

 

Authorizing the City Manager to accept a grant in the amount of $30,000 from the Texas Department of Transportation for the enforcement of the seat belt law and authorizing the City Manager to amend the City of Laredo’s FY 01-02 Annual Budget in the amount of $30,000. This grant is funded 100% by the Texas Department of Transportation and there is no cost to the City.

ACTION PROPOSED:

That this Ordinance be passed and approved.

 

 

BACKGROUND:

 

The Texas Department of Transportation has made a grant entitled Memorial Day Click It or Ticket available to the Laredo Police Department. The grant will pay for public information materials and overtime salaries for police officers for the enforcement of the seat belt law during May 20th – June 2nd.

ORDINANCE  NO. 2002-O-072

 

Authorizing the City Manager to accept a grant in the amount of $30,000 from the Texas Department of Transportation for the enforcement of the seat belt law and authorizing the City Manager to amend the City of Laredo’s FY 01-02 Annual Budget in the amount of $30,000. This grant is funded 100% by the Texas Department of Transportation and there is no cost to the City.

 

            Whereas, there is available to the City of Laredo a grant entitled Memorial Day Click It or Ticket from the Texas Department of Transportation for a program which would pay for public information materials and overtime salaries for off duty police officers for the enforcement of the seat belt law during May 20th – June 2, 2002; and

 

            Whereas, the Police Chief Recommends that the Council authorize acceptance of a grant for such a program in the amount of $30,000 for fiscal year 2001/2002; and

 

            Whereas, the City Council finds that such acceptance should be made and will be beneficial to the City.

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:

 

Section 1: It authorize the City Manager to accept a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation in the amount of $30,000 for the enforcement of the seat belt law during May 20, 2002 through June 2, 2002.

 

Section 2: It authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents to achieve said grant and to effectuate its terms.
