PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: On March 25, 2002 City Council approved the ordinance amending Chapter 12 of the Code of Ordinance to include Article FV to establish a fee structure. |

BACKGROUND: The Fire Fighting / Law Enforcement Training Facility is expected to be complete by May 2002. Ordinance will set a fee-based education including trainings, seminars, lectures, labs and the use of the building for the public and private businesses to be offered at the Fire Fighting / Law Enforcement Facility. The Laredo Fire Department
Fire/EMS Program is a program reflecting the needs of the community for
careers in the Fire and EMS services.
The course curriculum is designed to prepare students for initial
career preparations and to further career development for those who are
currently certified in Fire and EMS.
The curriculum offers students the opportunity to receive a choice of
numerous certifications, depending on their specific needs. Some of the programs are designed to
prepare the student for the Texas Commission on Fire Protection or Texas
Department of Health Certifications.

FINANCIAL: The implementation of these fees will generate additional sources of revenues for the General Fund. |

RECOMMENDATION: Staff
recommends that City Council approve the Final Reading of this ordinance.

ORDINANCE 2002-O-077
An Ordinance Amending Chapter 12 of the Code of
Ordinance of the City Of Laredo, Texas to include Article V to establish a
fee-based education including trainings, seminars, lectures, labs and the use
of building for the public and private businesses to be offered at the Fire
Fighting / Law Enforcement Training Facility (As AMENDED) .
WHEREAS,
The City of Laredo has hereto fore adopted Chapter 12 of the Code of Ordinances
of the City of Laredo as amended; and
WHEREAS,
the City of Laredo Fire Department ahs been charged with the duty of operating
the Fire Fighting / Law Enforcement Fire Training Facility; and
WHEREAS,
in order to operate the training facility and offset the cost of providing the
trainings the following fees are hereby proposed to be implemented.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
Section 1: Chapter 12 of the Code of Ordinance of the
City of Laredo be amended to include Article V which shall read as follows:
