PREVIOUS ACTION: On May 20, 2002, Ordinance was introduced by City Council, and Staff was instructed to proceed. BACKGROUND:
Starting May 10, 2002 the Airport will assume the responsibility to maintain a presence at the airport passenger security screening check point replacing the Texas National Guard. The Guard presence at airports across the nation is being pulled and replaced by local law enforcement officers. This action is being mandated by the federal government. The Transportation Security Administration will reimburse the airport for the additional expense. The current level of staffing requires
that two (2) additional officers be hired to maintain adequate security at
the airport. |

RECOMMENDATION: The Airport Advisory Committee recommends

RECOMMENDATION: That the City Manager be authorized to amend the City of Laredo FY 2001-2002 Full Time
Equivalent (FTE) positions by amending the budget to create two (2) FTE for
additional Airport Security Officer positions. |

ORDINANCE NO. 2002-O-112
AMENDING THE CITY OF LAREDO FY 2001-2002 FULL TIME EQUIVALENT (FTE) POSITIONS BY AMENDING THE BUDGET TO CREATE TWO (2) FTE FOR ADDITIONAL AIRPORT SECURITY OFFICER POSITIONS. FUNDING FOR THESE POSITIONS IS AVAILABLE IN THE AIRPORT FUND; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS,
the 2001-2002 City of Laredo Annual Budget was approved by City Council on
September 17, 2001 by Ordinance No. 2001-O-209;
WHEREAS, the proposed budget
amendment will create two (3) FTE for additional Airport Security Officer
Positions;
WHEREAS, the purpose of
budget amendment will serve to establish and recruit for two (2) Airport Police
Officers;
WHEREAS, funding for these
positions is available in the Airport Fund;
WHEREAS, a public hearing
was held and this ordinance introduced on May 20, 2002;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
Section 1:
The Airport Fund is hereby amended as follows:
Regular, Overtime, and Fringe Benefits account in
the 3635 division of the Airport Fund.
Section 2: This
Ordinance shall become effective upon passage hereof.
