SUBJECT: Final
Reading 2002-O114 Accepting a grant awarded by the Criminal Justice
Division, Office of the Governor for the amount of $40,000 and amending the
City of Laredo’s FY2001-2002 annual budget in the amount of $66,576 for
the Criminal Justice Division Grant
from the Office of the Governor. The Office of the Governor is
contributing $40,000 with the City
designating $26,576 in matching funds.
This funding will be used for the Domestic Awareness Response Team

BACKGROUND: This grant pays salaries, fringe benefits, and supplies
for two investigators. The main
objective of this project is to assign two investigators to follow up on
domestic violent cases that involve women.

Accepting a grant awarded by the Criminal Justice Division, Office of the Governor for the amount of $40,000 and amending the City of Laredo’s FY2001-2002 annual budget in the amount of $66,576 for the Criminal Justice Division Grant from the Office of the Governor. The Office of the Governor is contributing $40,000 with the City designating $26,576 in matching funds. This funding will be used for the Domestic Awareness Response Team Program under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) for the period of June 01, 2002 through November 30, 2002.
Whereas, the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice
Division and the Laredo Police Department will provide two investigators that
will investigate violence crimes against women.
Whereas, this grant will pay for $40,000 of salaries,
fringe benefits, and supplies for these two LPD Investigators, and the City of
Laredo Police Dept. will pay $26,576.
Whereas, the
Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division will support this grant for a
sixth year if goals have been accomplished.
Whereas, the City
of Laredo has agreed that in the event of loss or misuse of the Criminal
Justice Division funds, the City of Laredo assures that the funds will be
returned to the Criminal Justice Division in full.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
Section 1: The City of Laredo hereby accepts a grant
awarded by the Criminal Justice Division, Office of the Governor for the amount
of $40,000 and amends the City of Laredo’s FY 2001-2002 annual budget in the
amount of $66,576 for the Criminal
Justice Division Grant from the Office of the Governor. The Office of the
Governor is contributing $40,000 with
the City designating $26,576 in matching funds. This funding will be used for the Domestic Awareness Response
Team Program under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) for the period of June
01, 2002 through November 30, 2002.
Section 2: The City Manager be authorized to transfer
the two investigators assigned to the Domestic Awareness Response Team under
the VAWA Grant from the existing grant division 229-2378 to the new grant
division 229-2392 effective June 1, 2002.
Section 3: It authorize the City Manager to add the two
investigator positions hired under the VAWA grant to the general fund man-years
(General Fund 101-2310) if funding for the program is no longer available.
Section 4: It authorizes the City Manager to execute
all necessary documents to achieve said grant and to effectuate its terms.
