SUBJECT: FINAL READING 2002-O-136 Accepting a grant awarded by the Criminal Justice Division, Office of the Governor for the amount of $51,652 and amending the City of Laredo’s 2001-2002 annual budget in the amount of $299 to fund the Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant. The Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division is contributing $51,652 with the City of Laredo designating $5,739 in matching funds. This funding will be used to pay for the salaries and fringe benefits of an Administrative Assistant II position and to purchase the necessary equipment to expand information within its current intelligence database for its juvenile program. Grant period is from August 1, 2002 through July 31, 2003. |

BACKGROUND: The Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant is for law enforcement agencies providing a Coordinated Enforcement Plan in reducing juvenile crime. The plan includes reducing juvenile delinquency, improving the juvenile justice system, and to increase accountability of juvenile offenders. Funding will be used to pay for the
salaries and fringe benefits of an Administrative Assistant II position and
to purchase the necessary equipment to expand information within its
current intelligence database for its juvenile program. |

Accepting a grant awarded by the Criminal Justice Division, Office of
the Governor for the amount of $51,652 and amending the City of Laredo’s
2001-2002 annual budget in the amount of $299 to fund the Juvenile
Accountability Incentive Block Grant. The Office of the Governor, Criminal
Justice Division is contributing $51,652 with the City of Laredo designating
$5,739 in matching funds. Funding will be used to pay for the salaries
and fringe benefits of an Administrative Assistant II position and to purchase

Whereas,
the Chief of Police
recommends that this grant be accepted from the Office of the Governor,
Criminal Justice Division; and
Whereas, funding will be used to pay the
salaries and fringe benefits of
an Administrative Assistant II position and to purchase the necessary equipment
to expand information within its current intelligence database for its
juvenile program.
Whereas, the
Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division will designate $51,652 and
the City of Laredo will designate $5,739 in matching funds; and
Whereas, the City of Laredo has agreed that in the event of loss or
misuse of the Criminal Justice Division funds, the City of Laredo assures that
the funds will be returned to the Criminal Justice Division in full.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
Section 1:
Accepting a grant awarded by the Criminal Justice Division, Office of the
Governor for the amount of $51,652 and amending the City of Laredo’s 2001-2002
annual budget in the amount of $299 to fund the Juvenile Accountability
Incentive Block Grant. The Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division is
contributing $51,652 with the City of Laredo designating $5,739 in matching
funds. Funding will be used to pay the salaries and fringe benefits of an
Administrative Assistant II position and to purchase the necessary equipment to
expand information within its current intelligence database for its juvenile
program. Grant period is from August
1, 2002 through July 31, 2003.
Section 2: Authorizes the City Manager to execute all necessary documents to achieve said grant and to effectuate its terms.
