SUBJECT: Final Reading 2002-O-151 Authorizing
the City Manager to accept a reimbursement from the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI) in the amount of $19,717 for overtime expenses and amend
the City of Laredo’s FY 2001-2002 annual budget in the amount of $19,717 to
fund the Laredo Border Region Violent Crime Task Force (LBRVCTF). The Laredo Police Department will assign
one Investigator and one Police Officer to the task force. Reimbursement of overtime expenses will
commence on October 1, 2001 through September 30, 2002. |

|
BACKGROUND: The
Laredo Police Department has joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
to formulate the Laredo Border Region Violent Crime Task Force
(LBRVCTF). The FBI has been authorized
to pay overtime for two LPD police officers assigned to the task force. Together they will investigate, and
prosecute crimes against the United States.

Authorizing
the City Manager to accept a reimbursement from the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI) in the amount of $19,717 for overtime expenses and amend
the City of Laredo’s FY 2001-2002 annual budget in the amount of $19,717 to
fund the Laredo Border Region Violent Crime Task Force (LBRVCTF). The Laredo Police Department will assign
one Investigator and one Police Officer to the task force. Reimbursement of overtime expenses will
commence on October 1, 2001 through September 30, 2002.
Whereas,
the City Council previously adopted the budget for fiscal year
2001-2002; and
Whereas, the Chief of Police recommends that City
Council approve of the reimbursement of overtime salaries for the two police
officers assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Border Region Violent
Crime Task Force; and
Whereas, the
reimbursement of overtime salaries is beneficial to the City of Laredo since
matching funds are not required; and
Whereas, the Federal Bureau of Investigation will reimburse the City of Laredo up to a
maximum of $821.52 per officer assigned to the task force.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE
IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
Section 1: Authorizing the City Manager to accept a reimbursement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the amount of $19,717 for overtime expenses and the City of Laredo’s FY 2001-2002 annual budget is hereby amended in the amount of $19,717 to fund the Laredo Border Region Violent Crime Task Force (LBRVCTF). The Laredo Police Department will assign one Investigator and one Police Officer to the task force. Reimbursement of overtime expenses will commence on October 1, 2001 through September 30, 2002.
Section 2: The following line items be increased
accordingly.
