SUBJECT: FINAL READING OF ORDINANCE NO. 2002-O-201 Authorizing the City Manager to execute a Lease Amendment to the Lease Agreement
between the City of Laredo, as Lessor, and Laredo Guardian Volunteers, Inc.,
as Lessee, authorized by Ordinance No. 2001-0-141 dated July 16, 2001 for the
purpose of relocating Lessee to a larger office space effective September 1,
2002. Said Amendment will amend,
specifically, Section 1.01 titled “Leased Area”, relocating Lessee from Suite
No. 23 to Suite No. 26, respectively increasing the leased area from 300 square
feet to 480 square feet. Amend Section 1.04 titled “Rental Obligation”, in
order to increase the monthly rent from $388.58 to $624.00 Amend Section 4.08
titled “Notices” in order to change the mailing address. All other terms and
conditions remain unchanged and in effect; providing for an effective date. |

PREVIOUS
ACTION: On August 5,
2002, Ordinance was introduced by City Council, and Staff was instructed to
proceed. BACKGROUND:
Due to an increase in demand for the
services that Laredo Guardian Volunteers, Inc., provides, the agency is
requested to relocate from Suite No. 23 to Suite No. 26 within the same
building. Laredo Guardian Volunteers, Inc., is a
support group that provides services to the elderly and individuals with
disabilities within a six county service delivery area. They are court appointed legal guardians
which provide services such as caregivers, representatives, legal and money
management. Laredo Guardian Volunteers, Inc.,
works closely with hospitals, physicians and the Social Security
Administration to insure that he elderly and disabled receive the proper
services. |

2002-O-201
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A LEASE
AMENDMENT TO THE LEASE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LAREDO, AS LESSOR, AND
LAREDO GUARDIAN VOLUNTEERS, INC., AS LESSEE, AUTHORIZED BY ORDINANCE NO.
2001-0-141 DATED JULY 16, 2001 FOR THE PURPOSE OF RELOCATING LESSEE TO A LARGER
OFFICE SPACE EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2002.
SAID AMENDMENT WILL AMEND, SPECIFICALLY, SECTION 1.01 TITLED “LEASED
AREA”, RELOCATING LESSEE FROM SUITE NO. 23 TO SUITE NO. 26, RESPECTIVELY INCREASING
THE LEASED AREA FROM 300 SQUARE FEET TO 480 SQUARE FEET. AMEND SECTION 1.04
TITLED “RENTAL OBLIGATION”, IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE MONTHLY RENT FROM $388.58
TO $624.00. AMEND SECTION 4.08 TITLED “NOTICES” IN ORDER TO CHANGE THE MAILING
ADDRESS. ALL OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS REMAIN UNCHANGED AND IN EFFECT;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Airport Director
recommends that the City Council approve the proposed lease amendment to the
lease agreement between the City of Laredo, as LESSOR, and Laredo Guardian
Volunteers, Inc., as LESSEE, as a contract and in furtherance of the
development of the Laredo International Airport and as a support to the
maintenance and operation of the Laredo International Airport.
WHEREAS, on July 16, 2001, LESSOR and
LESSEE entered into a Lease approved by Ordinance No. 2001-0-141 for
approximately 300 square feet constituting Suite No. 23 of Building No. S-1
located at 1718 E. Calton Road at the Laredo International Airport; and
WHEREAS, LESSOR and LESSEE wish to
amend said Lease in order to relocate LESSEE to a larger office space effective
September 1, 2002. Said Amendment will
amend specifically Section 1.01 titled “Leased Area” relocating LESSEE from
Suite No. 23 to Suite No. 26, respectively increasing the leased area from 300
square feet to 480 square feet. Amend Section
1.04 titled “Rental Obligation” in order to increase the monthly rent from
$388.58 to $624.00. Amend Section 4.08 titled “Notices” in order to change the
mailing address. All other terms and
conditions remain unchanged and in effect.
WHEREAS, the Airport Advisory
Committee finds that said lease amendment is in the best interest of the Airport and recommends that the City
Council approve the proposed lease amendment; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the
City of Laredo having heard the recommendations of the Airport Director and of
the Airport Advisory Committee agrees with same.
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING A LEASE AMENDMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LAREDO AND
LAREDO GUARDIAN VOLUNTEERS, INC. (SUITE NO. 26 OF BUILDING NO. S-1)
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
Section
1: The City Manager be hereby
authorized to execute a lease amendment to the lease agreement between the City
of Laredo, as LESSOR, and Laredo Guardian Volunteers, Inc., as LESSEE, authorized
by Ordinance No. 2001-0-141 dated July 16, 2001, in order to relocate LESSEE to
a larger office space effective September 1, 2002. Said amendment will specifically
amend Section 1.01 titled “Leased Area” relocating LESSEE from Suite No. 23 to
Suite No. 26, respectively increasing the leased area from 300 square feet to
480 square feet. Amend Section 1.04
titled “Rental Obligation” increasing the monthly rent from $388.58 to $624.00.
Amend Section 4.08 titled “Notices” in order to change the mailing
address. All other terms and conditions
remain unchanged and in effect. A copy of which lease amendment is attached
hereto as Exhibit A, and incorporated herein as if set out at length for all
intents and purposes.
Section 2: This Ordinance shall become effective
upon passage hereof.
