BACKGROUND: The Texas Department of
Health has contracted with the City of Laredo to provide public health
services to residents of Laredo and Webb County through the City of Laredo
Health Department. The Bureau of Women’s
Health, Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Project, provides services to low
income women to reduce premature morbidity and mortality associated with
breast and cervical cancer. Services
include eligibility determination, risk assessment, screening, client
education, referral for treatment and other needed resources, tracking,
follow-up and outreach activities. The medical related services of this
project concentrate on breast screening for women aged 50 and up; cervical
screening of women aged 18 and up; and 25% of the funds can be allocated for
breast screening for those women
between the ages of 40-49 with abnormal breast exams. These services are provided by the Mercy
Regional Medical Center’s Women’s Health Clinic and reimbursed from this
grant through a contract with the Health Department. The amendment to the budget consists of $5,400 in additional funds for this project. BUDGET |

2002. Revenue account for this
project is 226-0000-323-4055, and the expense account number is 226-6045. |

ORDINANCE 2002-O-253
Amending the City of Laredo FY 2001-2002 budget by appropriating additional funds in the amount of $5,400 for the Bureau of Women’s Health, Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Project (BCCCP) of the City of Laredo Health Department and extending the contract period by one month from for the period beginning September 1, 2001, through August 31, 2002 to September 1, 2001, through September 30, 2002.
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of
Health (TDH) is contracting with the City of Laredo to provide public health
services to residents of Laredo and Webb County through the City of Laredo
Health Department; and
WHEREAS, the Breast
and Cervical Cancer Control Project, provides services to low-income women to

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LAREDO THAT:
Section 1: The
City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the contract and accept the grants
and their provisions as set forth by the Texas Department of Health.
Section 2: The
City of Laredo accepts an increase in funds in the amount of $5,400 in
additional funds for the Breast and Cervical Cancer
Control Project of the City of Laredo Health Department.
Section 3: Revenue line item 226-0000-323-4055 funded by the Texas Department
of Health be increased from
$39,000 to $44,400.
Section 4: Expenditure line item 226-6045 be increased from $39,000 to $44,400.
Section 5: The City Manager is hereby authorized to make
transfers within the budget as allowable under the General Provisions of the
existing general contract with the Texas Department of Health to meet the
necessary costs to accomplish the scope of work for the project.
