BACKGROUND: This is the
second year of funding from the Texas State Library that directly benefits
pubic libraries. The Texas Legislature approved over $2.5 million dollars in
direct aid to public libraries for programs that directly impact services to
the library patron. A formula for
allocation included base grant (population) and above base, which was
determined by whether or not libraries charged non-resident fees. Laredo Public Library does not charge
non-resident fees. Funds will be
used to replace worn out public computers in children’s section of the
Main Library. Replaced computers will be used for parts
to repair existing computers or will be stored for Open Enrollment or other
group training activities. The total
amount received for this grant program from the Texas State Library is
$44,454.00 |

FINANCIAL IMPACT: Maintenance costs after warranty will increase, but expect no
significant impact to the annual budget in 2003-2004. Funds
will be expended through the Friends of the Library Fund line item: 661-3552-555-9002 Computer hardware

Ordinance 2000-O-299
Accepting a direct aid grant from the Loan Star Libraries Program of
the Texas State Library in the amount of $22,323.00 to purchase new computer
hardware and amending the City of Laredo fiscal year 2002-2003 annual budget by
decreasing the reserved appropriation amount by $2,667.00.
WHEREAS, the City of
Laredo seeks all opportunities to augment the informational resources provided
by the Laredo Public Library, and;
WHEREAS, these grant
funds will be used to provide new computer hardware for the Children’s section
of the Main Library, and;
WHEREAS, the City of
Laredo is pleased to accept this grant from the Texas State Library – Loan Star
Libraries Program, and;
WHEREAS, the City Manager is authorized to amend said budget for these funds;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
1. The City of Laredo FY 2002-2003 Annual budget is amended in the amount of $2,677.00 for a grant from the Texas State Library – Loan Star Libraries Program in the amount of $22,323.00.
2. These funds will be used to purchase new computer hardware for the Children’s section of the Main Library.
3. The City Manager is hereby directed to execute any and all documents as required for the transfer of these funds.
