SUBJECT:     Final Reading #2002-0-301

 

Authorizing the City Manager to amend Ordinance #2002-0-224 so as to accept a supplemental grant in the amount of $29,200.00 from the Texas Automobile Theft Prevention Authority and to amend the City of Laredo’s FY 2002-2003 annual budget in the amount of $29,200.00.  This supplemental grant of $29,200.00 is 100% funded at no cost to the city. The Texas Automobile Theft Prevention Authority will now be designating $428,492.00, the City of Laredo will be designating $78,858.00 and Webb County will be designating $31,464.00 in matching funds for a total grant amount of $538,814.00. The funding period for this grant is from September 1, 2002 through August 31, 2003.

PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:

 City Council approved the ATPA grant (Reference Ordinance# 2002-0-224)

 

 

ACTION PROPOSED:

 That this ordinance be passed and approved.

 

 

BACKGROUND:

This grant pays salaries, fringe benefits, equipment and supplies for one LPD Sergeant, three LPD Investigators, one Webb County Sheriff’s Investigator, one Webb County District Attorney Investigator, and one Secretary.  This grant will be on its 11th year of funding.

ORDINANCE #2002-0-301

Whereas, the Governor’s Automobile Theft Prevention Authority has provided grant monies to Laredo in the preceding ten (10) years to interdict auto theft, and

 

Whereas, the supplemental grant from the Governor’s Automobile Theft Prevention Authority will total in the amount of $428,492.00 for the period of September 1, 2002 to August 31, 2003, and

               

Whereas, the City of Laredo has agreed that in the event of loss or misuse of the Automobile Theft Prevention Authority funds, the city of Laredo assures that the funds will be returned to the Automobile Theft Prevention Authority; and    

                                                      

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:

 

Section 1:  The City of Laredo’s FY 2002-2003 annual budget is hereby amended in the amount of $538,814.00 to fund the Laredo Auto Theft Task Force.  A.T.P.A. will be designating $428,492.00, the City of Laredo will be designating $78,858.00 in matching funds and Webb County will be designating $31,464.00 in matching funds for a total of $538,814.00 for a one-year funding period for the Auto Theft Task Force beginning on September 1, 2002 through August 31, 2003.

 

Section 2:  Authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents to achieve said grant and to effectuate its terms.

 

Section 3:  The following line items to be increased accordingly:
