SUBJECT:   FINAL READING ORDINANCE NO. 2002-O-308

Authorizing the City Manager to execute a lease agreement between the City of Laredo, as Lessor and Clemente M. Bedia, as Lessee for approximately 624.77 sq. ft. of building space to be used as a (W.I.C.), Woman, Infant and Children Food Store at the area commonly known as 2300 Saltillo part of the South Laredo Pool Park site, for a term of one year at a monthly rental rate of $300.00 per month.

PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:

On November 18, 2002 the introductory ordinance was presented and read to City Council.

 

BACKGROUND:              

 

The lease property is approximately 624.77 square feet and is located at 2300 Saltillo, the South Laredo Pool Park site.

 

Mr. Celmente M. Bedia is currently the Tenant at the Saltillo premises, where he has  operated a

(W.I.C.) Food Store for the past four years. This lease agreement has now expired and Mr. Bedia has requested a renewal of the lease agreement. 

 

Mr. Bedia has maintained a good record as a Tenant, with a consistent history of timely payments.

 

The term of this lease will be for one year with the monthly rental rate of $300.00.

 

Future plans for this site include the renovation of this building to be used as bathroom facilities to compliment the current improvement project at South Laredo Park as funding becomes available.

 

 

 

 

 

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

This lease will generate revenues of $3,600.00 for the one year lease term.

ORDINANCE 2002-O-308

 

 

            AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A LEASE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LAREDO, AS LESSOR AND CLEMENTE M. BEDIA, AS LESSEE, FOR APPROXIMATELY 624.77 SQ. FT. OF BUILDING SPACE TO BE USED AS A (W.I.C.), WOMEN, INFANT AND CHILDREN FOOD STORE AT THE AREA COMMONLY KNOWN AS 2300 SALTILLO PART OF THE SOUTH LAREDO POOL PARK SITE, FOR A TERM OF ONE YEAR AT A MONTHLY RENTAL RATE OF $300.00 PER MONTH.

 

            WHEREAS, the City of Laredo realizes and values the contribution and opportunities that the (W.I.C.), Women, Infant and Children food distribution program provides the citizens of our community; and

 

            WHEREAS, the City of Laredo desires to continue to facilitate the distribution of these vital food item by leasing this vacant City property Clemente M. Bedia for the operation of the (W.I.C.) food store; and

 

            WHEREAS, the Tenant, Clemente M. Bedia has proved to be a reliable Tenant; unfailing in his monthly payments; and

 

            WHEREAS, the leased property had been a vacant building space prior to the lease agreement.

 

           

            NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO, THAT:

 

           

            1. The City Manager is authorized to execute a lease agreement between the City of Laredo and Clemente M. Bedia for the operation of a (W.I.C.) food store at 2300 Saltillo for the term of one year at a monthly rental rate of $300.00.
