PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: On August 19, 2002
Council approved a contract with Washington’s Birthday Celebration Museum of
Laredo, Texas, to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Museum located at
900 Zaragoza Street. |

BACKGROUND: Washington’s Birthday
Celebration Museum opened on February 14, 2001, as the primary venue to
exhibit costumes, photographs and other paraphernalia commemorating the
celebration. Since October 2002, the Laredo Convention & Visitors Bureau
has been operating the Museum which also functions as an information center
for the City of Laredo. The Museum has been
operating with LCVB contractual staff and will be reimbursed for payroll
costs by the WBC Museum. The 1.5 FTEs will work
2080 and 1040 hours respectively. |

FINANCIAL IMPACT: WBCM will reimburse LCVB on a monthly basis for management and
operation expenses of the Museum. Expense will be in 250-5323 division. |

ORDINANCE 2003-O-023
PUBLIC HEARING AND INTRODUCTORY ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO AMEND THE CITY OF LAREDO’S FULL TIME EQUIVALENT POSITIONS BY ADDING 1.5 FULL
TIME CLERK POSITIONS FOR THE WASHINGTON’S BIRTHDAY CELBRATION MUSEUM OPERATION.
WHEREAS, on August 19, 2002, the Laredo City Council approved a
contract with Washington’s Birthday Celebration Museum of Laredo, Texas, to
oversee the day-to-day operations of the Museum located at 900 Zaragoza Street;
and,
WHEREAS, Washington’s Birthday Celebration Museum opened on
February 14, 2001, as the primary venue to exhibit costumes, photographs and
other paraphernalia commemorating the celebration; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Laredo Convention & Visitors Bureau has
been operating the Museum which also functions as an information center for the
City of Laredo;
WHEREAS, the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Museum will
reimburse the Laredo Convention & Visitors Bureau for management and
operation expenses;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO
THAT:
Section 1: The City
Manager is authorized to amend the City of Laredo’s full time equivalent
positions by adding 1.5 full-time clerk
positions for the purposes of operating Washington’s Birthday Celebration Museum.
