SUBJECT: FINAL READING ORDINANCE
2003-O-044
Authorizing
the City Manager to enter into agreement with Texas Parks and Wildlife to
accept a grant in the amount of $75,200, with a 20% local match for the
construction of a portion of the Chacon Creek Trail and amending the City of
Laredo Fiscal Year 2003 Capital Improvements Projects Fund annual budget by
appropriating revenues of $75,200 in the form of a grant from Texas Parks and
Wildlife and appropriating expenditures in the amount of $75,200 for the
Construction of a portion (7,000 lf) of the Chacon Creek Hike and Bike Trail. |

BACKGROUND: The
Texas Parks and Wildlife National Recreational Trails Grant Fund has awarded
the City $75,200 for the development of the Chacon Creek Hike and Bike Trail
which will span approximately 7,000 linear feet from the mouth of the Rio
Grande to Dryden Park. The trail will be constructed through the coordination
of various city departments including Public Works, Parks, Engineering,
Community Development and the Environmental Engineering Department. The
trail will provide visitors an opportunity to access scenic areas along the
Chacon Creek and the riverbank and also link existing parks including Dryden
and the Benavides Softball Park. The
20% local matching funds from Community Development Block Grants will provide
for pending acquisition of property located near the project site. |

WHEREAS, on September 20, 2002, City Council
adopted the fiscal year 2003 annual budget: and
WHEREAS, on February 18, 2003, City Council will
hold a public hearing and introduce this ordinance; and
WHEREAS, Texas Parks and Wildlife has awarded
the City of Laredo a grant in the amount of $75,200 with 20% local matching
funds for construction of the Chacon Creek Hike and Bike Trail.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
