PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: At the February 18, 2003 City Council Meeting, Council directed
staff to proceed with the proposed amendments. |

BACKGROUND: During the annual City Council Budget
Workshops held August 12th-14th, 2002, City Council
discussed in detail and specified that the increase in the property tax
should be earmarked for Public Safety.
During this discussion, one of the Public Safety projects that City
Council agreed to fund was Fire Station #14 at the Cielito Lindo Subdivision,
as well as, fund the twenty-four
(24) Firefighter/Cadets needed for that particular station. The
following positions are proposed: Current Positions Proposed Positions Increase/Decrease

FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for the twenty-four (24)
Firefighter/Cadets is already appropriated in the FY 2002-2003 approved
budget. The twenty-four (24)
firefighter/cadets are estimated to begin
in March 2003 at an estimated cost of $671,905. |

ORDINANCE
NO. 2003-O-045
Authorizing
the City Manager to amend the City of Laredo’s FY 2002-2003 Full-Time
Equivalents (FTE) positions by creating twenty-four (24) Firefighter/Cadet
positions for Fire Station #14 located at the Cielito Lindo Subdivision.
WHEREAS,
during the annual City Council Budget Workshops held August 12th-14,
2002, the City Council discussed in detail and specified that the increase in
the property tax should be earmarked for Public Safety; and,
WHEREAS,
during this discussion, one of the Public Safety projects that City Council
agreed to fund was Fire Station #14 at the Cielito Lindo Subdivision, as well
as, fund the twenty-four Firefighter/Cadets needed for that particular station;
and,
WHEREAS, the City
Council will hold a public hearing and introduction of this ordinance on
February 18, 2003 and,
NOW THEREFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
