ORDINANCE 2003-O-046 CONSIDERATION
TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN ADOPT-A-PARK AGREEMENT WITH
COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF GAINING ACTIVE SUPPORT FROM THE
COMMUNITY IN BEAUTIFYING OUR CITY PARKS AND AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO
ACCEPT $3,000 DONATIONS YEARLY AND/OR
IMPROVEMENTS IN LIEU OF FROM ORGANIZATIONS PARTICIPATING IN THE ADOPT-A-PARK
PROGRAM AND AMEND THE CITY OF LAREDO FISCAL YEAR 2003 GENERAL FUND BUDGET BY
APPROPRIATING $18,000 IN REVENUES AND APPROPRIATING $18,000 IN EXPENDITURES

BACKGROUND: The Adopt-A-Park program
was last implemented in 1999 and is being reintroduced in an effort to pursue
public-private collaborations in order to serve the community at large.
Proposed program activities may include beautification projects, clean up
efforts and may also include the addition of recreational equipment to an
adopted park site or a sponsored play day at the park. These activities will
encourage the community to utilize the park facilities, as well as, take
pride in them. All activities are
coordinated with the Parks and Recreation Department and any proposed
development of an area will require prior department approval. |

PARKS AND AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT $3,000 DONATIONS YEARLY AND/OR IMPROVEMENTS IN LIEU OF FROM

LAREDO FISCAL YEAR 2003 GENERAL FUND BUDGET BY APPROPRIATING $18,000 IN
REVENUES AND APPROPRIATING $18,000 IN EXPENDITURES FOR YEARLY MAINTENANCE AND
IMPROVEMENTS AT ADOPTED PARK SITES.
WHEREAS, the Adopt-A-Park program will encourage active community participation in the beautification of our city parks; and
WHEREAS, donations to our parks will provide for needed improvements and facilitate the programming of clean up efforts and beautification projects; and
WHEREAS, the City maintains the city parks to provide more leisure activities for the citizenry and to improve the quality of life; and
WHEREAS, a public hearing will be held and the ordinance introduced.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
SECTION 1. The City Manager may enter into Adopt-A-Park agreements with community organizations to encourage active participation from the community in beautifying city parks.
SECTION 2. The City Manager may accept donations for
adopted park sites on behalf of the City of Laredo.
SECTION 3. The General Fund is hereby amended as
follows:
