BACKGROUND: The Texas Department of
Transportation has made a grant entitled Click
It or Ticket available to the Laredo Police Department. The grant will
pay for overtime salaries for police officers for the enforcement of the seat

ORDINANCE 2003-O-094
Authorizing
the City Manager to accept a grant in the amount of $65,000 from the Texas
Department of Transportation for the enforcement of the seat belt law and
authorizing the City Manager to amend the City of
Whereas, there is available to the City of Laredo a grant entitled Click It or Ticket from the Texas
Department of Transportation for a program which would pay for overtime
salaries for off duty police officers for the enforcement of the seat belt law
during May 19, 2003 – June 1, 2003 and November 18, 2003 – December 1, 2003;
and
Whereas,
The Grant becomes effective on May 1, 2003, or on the date of final signature,
whichever is later, and ends on December 31, 2003; and
Whereas,
the Police Chief Recommends that the Council authorize acceptance of a grant
for such a program in the amount of $65,000 for fiscal year 2002/2003; and
Whereas, the City Council finds that such acceptance should be made and will be
beneficial to the City.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
Section 1: It authorize
the City Manager to accept a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation
in the amount of $65,000 for the enforcement of the seat belt law during

the City Manager to execute all necessary documents to achieve said grant and
to effectuate its terms.
