PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
Council accepted a grant in the amount of $2,500.00 from the Texas Book Festival on June 17, 2002. These funds were used to purchase Reference books for the Santo Niño Branch Library.
BACKGROUND: The Texas Book Festival is an annual gift event promoting the enhancement of valuable assets and services provided through Texas Public Libraries. This year’s total awards exceeded $80,000 to 33 public libraries through out the State. The $2,500 awarded to the Laredo Public Library will be used to purchase Large Print Books for the Bruni Plaza Branch Library.
FINANCIAL: Increase Bruni Plaza Branch Library Books line items # 101-0000-372-1000 & # 101-3520-552-2302.
RECOMMENDATION:		STAFF:
The Library Advisory Committee recommended approval on April 30, 2003.		Recommend the introduction of the ordinance.

ORDINANCE No. 2003-O-130

AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE TEXAS BOOK FESTIVAL IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500.00 AND AMENDING THE CITY OF LAREDO FY 2002-2003 ANNUAL BUDGET IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,500.00

WHEREAS, the City of Laredo seeks all opportunities to augment the information resources provided through the Laredo Public Library, and;

WHEREAS, these grant funds will be used to purchase Large Print books for the Bruni Plaza Branch Library, and;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:

1. The City of Laredo accepts a grant from the Texas Book Festival in the amount of $2,500.00;

2. The City of Laredo FY 2002-2003 Budget is amended in the amount of $2,500.00.

3. These funds are to be used to purchase Large Print books for the Bruni Plaza Branch Library.
