With a quorum present Mayor Elizabeth G. Flores called the
meeting to order.

2. 98-R-071 Canvassing the returns of the General Election
held on Saturday, May 2, 1998; approving the
results; and ordering a run-off election.
City Secretary Gustavo Guevara, Jr. publicly read
the elections results of the May 2, 1998 General
Election as follows:

Motion to canvass the May 2, 1998 General Election results by
accepting the results as presented by the City Secretary and
approving Resolution 98-R-071.

After the adoption of resolution 98-R-071 Mayor Flores
proceeded to have the tied candidates in District III to draw
lots which were Michael Landeck and Gerardo "Jerry" Vasquez.
Mayor Flores called them to the front of the chambers for the
purpose drawing lots to determine who would be in the run-off
election of May 30, 1998 against John C. Galo.
The City Secretary provided a bowl in which two pieces of paper
were placed. One piece of paper contained the words "in the
run-off" and the other piece of paper contained the words "not
in the run-off". After a mutual agreement between the two
candidates, it was decided that Mr. Landeck would draw first.
Michael Landeck drew the words "in the run-off" and Gerardo
"Jerry" Vasquez drew the words "not in the run-off".
