Laredo, Texas— The City of Laredo will begin replacing the first set of aging water lines across the city, marking a major step forward in improving the City’s water infrastructure and addressing long-standing concerns from residents.

This first phase of the citywide Water Line Replacement Project will replace approximately 30,110 feet of old and frequently damaged water lines, which have accounted for a total of 273 water main breaks over the past five years. The result of these breaks has been the loss of an estimated 17.2 million gallons of water.

The streets selected for this first phase were identified by the City of Laredo Utilities Department as the highest-priority locations in each council district, based on service records, repair frequency, and water loss.

The work officially begins on Monday, June 16, 2025, with contractors now mobilized and preparing construction zones in advance.

This work is made possible through $11.3 million in funding from the 2022 Water Revenue Bond. The City also continues to hold additional funding from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to support future phases of this multi-year replacement effort.

To further assist residents, the contractor is currently conducting door-to-door outreach in the areas where work will occur, providing information, answering questions, and helping residents prepare for the temporary impacts of construction.

LAREDO, TX –  La Ciudad de Laredo comenzará el reemplazo del primer grupo de líneas de agua antiguas en distintos sectores de la ciudad, marcando un paso importante para mejorar la infraestructura hídrica y atender preocupaciones por parte de los residentes.

Esta primera fase del Proyecto de Reemplazo de Líneas de Agua contempla sustituir aproximadamente 30,110 pies de tuberías viejas y dañadas, que en los últimos cinco años han generado un total de 273 rupturas de líneas principales, resultando en la pérdida estimada de 17.2 millones de galones de agua.

Las calles incluidas en esta fase inicial fueron identificadas por el Departamento de Servicios Públicos como las zonas de mayor prioridad en cada distrito municipal, basándose en datos de servicio, frecuencia de rupturas y pérdida de agua.

El trabajo iniciará oficialmente el lunes, 16 de junio del 2025, con el personal ya movilizado para preparar las zonas de construcción.

Este esfuerzo será posible gracias a una inversión de $11.3 millones de dólares, financiados por medio del Bono de Ingresos de Agua de 2022. La ciudad también cuenta con fondos adicionales provenientes del Cuerpo de Ingenieros del Ejército de EE.UU.
