City of Laredo Public Library Launches First Annual Public Arts Plan

Post Date:12/05/2025

Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo Public Library is excited to announce the start of its first Annual Public Arts Plan, a community wide effort designed to bring creativity into public spaces and highlight the artistic talent found across Laredo. This initiative invites residents to participate in a Public Art Contest that welcomes all mediums, including writing, design, and visual arts.

More than one hundred project locations have been identified throughout the city, each offering an opportunity for artists to contribute to Laredo’s growing public art landscape. To support broad community involvement, the library created submission forms for public participants and separate forms for partner institutions including Texas A and M International University, Laredo College, United Independent School District, and Laredo Independent School District. Dedicated student projects have been set aside for these academic partners using individual QR codes to ensure students participate within their own categories.

The program aims to foster creativity, encourage community engagement, and celebrate the cultural identity of Laredo. Visual art and artwork designs selected through this contest will receive a five hundred dollar award, while selected writing submissions will receive a two hundred fifty dollar award.

Community members interested in participating can scan the QR code featured on the official Public Art Contest graphic to register and submit their work. The QR code leads directly to the public submission form and is open to all Laredo residents.

The submission deadline for all public entries is Sunday, December 7 at 11:59 p.m.

For more information, residents may visit any City of Laredo Public Library branch or follow the Public Arts Laredo page for updates. All services and events are listed on the library’s website (laredolibrary.org).
