Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo Health Department is announcing the expansion of its Naloxone Dispensary Initiative, increasing free public naloxone access points from eight to ten locations across the community. This effort, launched on November 29, 2023, was created to ensure residents can quickly and easily obtain naloxone (Narcan), a lifesaving medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. Since the start of the program, the initiative has distributed 675 boxes of naloxone in 2024 and 435 boxes in 2025 to date, demonstrating the community’s growing awareness of overdose prevention and its commitment to emergency readiness.
The two new naloxone access points include the Preventive Care Services Clinic located at 6801 McPherson Road, Suite 112, and the City of Laredo Tennis Complex at Texas A and M International University located at 5201 University Boulevard. This expansion continues the department’s work to make naloxone accessible at no cost in locations that are easy to reach and familiar to the public. By increasing availability, the City of Laredo aims to equip individuals with the tools they need to act quickly during an emergency and help save lives, reinforcing the community’s overall preparedness and safety. The Public Health Department extends its gratitude to Texas A&M International University and the City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Department for helping the expansion of outreach efforts at their locations. Their support strengthens the reach of this initiative and helps ensure more residents have access to lifesaving resources.
