Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo proudly announces the appointment of Danielle Burns as the new Assistant Director of the Laredo Public Libraries. Burns brings more than a decade of dedicated service to the library system and a proven commitment to advancing public access, literacy, and community engagement. Burns holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Niagara University and a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo. During her more than ten years with the Laredo Public Libraries, she has served in several key roles, including reference librarian, branch manager, and most recently, technical services librarian.
From the beginning of her career with the library system, Burns has exemplified a people-first approach to public service. Her work has spanned teaching English as a Second Language to adult learners, offering basic computer skills courses, attending community engagement events such as National Night Out, and supporting numerous outreach efforts aimed at expanding access to library resources.
In her most recent role as technical services librarian, Burns focused on strengthening the user experience through the strategic integration of people, technology, and service delivery. Under her leadership, the library’s digital checkouts increased by 137 percent over three years, driven by improvements to the organization and accessibility of the library’s digital collections.
As Assistant Director, Burns will support the continued growth and modernization of the Laredo Public Libraries, ensuring that residents of all ages have access to the knowledge, tools, and resources that enrich learning and foster lifelong curiosity.
