Amber Holmes graduated from Harlem High School in Rockford, Illinois, in 2001. She then enlisted in the U.S. Army, where she served for four years as an interrogator and Russian linguist. During her military service, she became airborne certified and spent the majority of her career stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
After completing her military service, Amber pursued higher education at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking and Finance, graduating summa cum laude in 2008. She continued her academic journey at Saint Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, obtaining her Juris Doctor in 2013.
As a licensed attorney, Amber initially focused on estate planning and settlement in San Antonio and Austin, Texas. In 2014, she transitioned to private practice in Laredo, Texas, where she specialized in criminal defense and family law. In 2019, she took on a role as a prosecutor with the District Attorney’s Office. She worked primarily on capital murder cases where she developed a deep understanding of both legal strategy and the emotional weight of these high-stakes prosecutions.
In 2022, Amber accepted a position with the City Attorney’s Office, where she now practices municipal law, bringing her extensive legal experience to the City of Laredo. In addition to her professional work, Amber has been actively involved with the Laredo-Webb County Bar Association, serving in various leadership roles. Most notably, she was elected president of the association for the 2023-2024 bar year.
