As a J.W. Nixon High School graduate, Joaquin Alberto Rodriguez is a proud Laredoan who has dedicated his professional life to serving his community.
Joaquin is a 2013 Texas Tech University School of Law graduate who received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2010.
Upon graduating from law school, Joaquin began his legal career working for the Webb-Zapata County District Attorney’s Office and was a prosecutor for over eight years. Five of those eight years were spent in the Special Victims Unit, where he prosecuted cases involving the abuse of children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. After serving as the Chief Prosecutor for the Special Victims Unit, he became the Chief Prosecutor for the 49th District Court, where he prosecuted general felonies, including burglaries, aggravated assaults, and homicide cases.
Through his experiences, he has been a guest lecturer on a wide range of topics related to child abuse for educators and administrators employed by Laredo Independent School District and United Independent School District, as well as multiple law enforcement agencies.
In 2022, Joaquin accepted a position with the City of Laredo, where he serves as the First Assistant City Attorney.
Joaquin has been an adjunct professor for the Criminal Justice Department at Texas A&M International University for over nine years. He continues to lecture on multiple topics such as Constitutional Law-Civil Liberties, Law & Society, Victimology, and Law & Film.
