City of Laredo Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) is the practice of providing community-based mental health treatment under civil court commitment as a means of motivating an adult with mental illness who struggles with voluntary treatment adherence to engage fully with their treatment plan. 

AOT Services include:

• Intensive Case Management
• Virtual Psychiatry Care
• Medical Care
• Counseling
• Referrals to community

AOT provides us with the opportunity to serve people who need the support to work with clients to help them towards recovery, where they can successfully live in our community and thrive. 

A personal is eligible for AOT if they are between the ages of 18-65 and a resident of the City of Laredo/Webb County with a serious mental illness where if they do not receive treatment, they will consequently suffer deterioration to the extent where they will be unable to live safely in the community. The person is unable to participate in outpatient mental health treatment effectively and voluntarily. 

Additionally, the person must: 

• Have a history of inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations or incarcerations (2 or more in the past 24 months)
• Have a history of non-compliance with outpatient mental health treatment. 
• Have no pending criminal charges

If the person meets the criteria, the AOT team will meet with them about accepting their services. People not meeting the AOT criteria will be referred to appropriate resources. 

Laredo AOT team helps people achieve and maintain physical and mental health through court ordered treatment. AOT also aims at: 

• Decreasing mental health crisis
• Decreasing inpatient hospitalizations
• Decreasing incarcerations
• Decreasing homelessness
• Increase medication adherence
• Increase community involvement
