A personal is eligible for AOT if they are between the ages of 18-65 and a resident of the City of Laredo/Webb County with a serious mental illness where if they do not receive treatment, they will consequently suffer deterioration to the extent where they will be unable to live safely in the community. The person is unable to participate in outpatient mental health treatment effectively and voluntarily.
Additionally, the person must:
- Have a history of inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations or incarcerations (2 or more in the past 24 months)
- Have a history of non-compliance with outpatient mental health treatment.
- Have no pending criminal charges
If the person meets the criteria, the AOT team will meet with them about accepting their services. People not meeting the AOT criteria will be referred to appropriate resources.
