MISSION STATEMENT

At Employee Health and Wellness, we are committed to fostering a culture of health and wellness for our employees, retirees and their families. Our goal is to ensure access to high-quality healthcare and to support our workforce in managing both acute and chronic conditions. We believe in providing personalized, comprehensive care through the best medical professionals, empowering our employees to prioritize their well-being. Wellness Incentive Program

The City of Laredo is continuously seeking innovative ways to provide resources for employees to improve and maintain their health. As part of our efforts, we are excited to continue the Wellness Incentive Program beginning October 1, 2025 for eligible City of Laredo employees (City employees in permanent full time positions). Upon completion of eight (8) wellness activities for FY25-26, eligible City of Laredo employees will be receiving two (2) Wellness Days off and a 12-month membership to City of Laredo Recreation Centers.

Get Moving

Complete the Wellness Incentive Program and receive Free 12-Month Recreation Center Membership Card. The recreation membership card grants access to the 12 City of Laredo Recreation Centers which include indoor tracks, weight rooms, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts, etc.

Physician Services

The Employee Health and Wellness Clinic features medical consultations by physician and nurse practitioner, who conduct evaluations for personal illnesses, Workers’ Compensation injuries, minor wound care, communicable diseases, immunizations, health assessments, and makes referrals for employees needing advanced care.

Services are available to employees, their spouses, dependents, and retirees enrolled in the City of Laredo Medical Plan.

Consultation hours with the physician are as follows:

Clinic Services

Buena Vida

Buena Vida provides free blood panel lab work focused on preventing and reducing chronic diseases. This initiative highlights the importance of early detection, education, counseling, and referrals for patients who need more advanced care.

The program provides a health assessment, blood pleasure screening, BMI calculation in addition to the Blood Test & more.

Counseling is provided by the Employee Health & Wellness staff within one (1) week of test.

Buena Vida is available at no cost to City of Laredo employees, their spouses, and retirees who are enrolled under the City of Laredo medical plan. Lab work may be performed every six months. Services are accessible daily at the Employee Health & Wellness clinic from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Complete Nutrition Solutions

The "City of Laredo - Vida with Nutrition" program, offered by our CNS Registered Dietitians, aims to deliver bilingual, employee-centered, personalized services designed to create a supportive environment. This initiative seeks to educate and empower our City of Laredo employees and their families to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. Our dedicated and licensed CNS Registered Dietitians will offer individualized one-on-one consultations as well as group health-focused educational classes.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The City of Laredo provides every City of Laredo employee the opportunity to utilize our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), through ComPsych. EAP is intended to help employees deal with personal problems that adversely impact their job performance, health, and well-being. Employees and their dependents that live in the same household are eligible for six (6) free sessions per incident.

Health Stations

In an effort to promote overall health & wellbeing to our employees, the Employee Health & Wellness division has ten (10) interactive health stations at various City departments (Please see below). All regular full-time employees and part-time City employees (with medical benefits) that have a unique employee ID number can access these stations. This resource is exclusive to City of Laredo employees, and provides a way to check a variety of health measurements at any time including: blood pleasure, heart rate, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI).

How to log-in to the Health Station:

Employees must use their employee ID number to access the Health Stations.

The standard, permanent username is:

ew (employee ID number) (example: ew1234).

The default password is:

ew (last four digits of Social Security number) (example: ew5678).

The Health Stations are provided for employees to monitor their personal health. Employees can view their ongoing results at the Health Stations or can log into:

Employee Health and Wellness is committed to providing exceptional medical care. We have teamed up with VitalMed Clinic to enhance our service offerings.

Their extensive range of services includes general check-ups and preventive care, ensuring that eligible employees of the City of Laredo receive the necessary healthcare attention.

VitalMed Clinic provides free after-hours medical services for City of Laredo employees, retirees, and dependents enrolled in the city’s health plan.

Understanding the importance of accessible healthcare for all, our after-hours services cater to those with hectic schedules, allowing you to seek medical assistance when it suits you best. Our goal is to promote a healthier community by making healthcare more affordable and accessible.
